Karl Stott
Karl began playing Cornet at the age of 9 with his LEA. Eventually joining Wirral Schools’ Brass Band at 14 and progressing to Assistant Principal Cornet. At 19 Karl moved to Huddersfield University and joined the Jayess ’87 Band, and undertook lessons from Philip McCann. Leaving Huddersfield a year later, he then began working for Wirral Borough Council, training in the Accountancy Division. In 2006 Karl decided to return to University to pursue his passion for music. He is completed his music degree in June 2009. Karl’s tutors included Russell Gray, Brian Taylor on cornet, composition with Peter Graham, and Conducting with Howard Evans. He studied Conducting in the 3rd year with David King and Howard Evans.
Karl’s conducting career began at secondary school, where he conducted the Junior Brass Ensemble. He has also conducted the Wirral Brass Ensemble, Wallasey Music Centre Brass Band, Deeside Silver Band and Northop Silver Band. Karl has been Musical Director with the Northop Youth Band since 2003, and won Pontins British Open Youth Championships in 2005. His playing career includes Jayess ’87, Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass and Northop Silver Band (since 2001), as well as deputising for many bands in Wales. the North West and Yorkshire.
Karl became MD of Greenall’s Band in April 2008, and is really looking forward to working with the band. He is extremely pleased with the start winning 5 prizes out of 7 in the 2008 Whit Friday. Marches. His ambition for Greenalls band is to continue to build on the recent successes .We have recently returned to the 2nd Section.
